ROADSIDE CHECKLIST · KEEP THIS HANDY FRC-24/7
  1. Get safe first. Hazards on, everyone out of the vehicle and behind the barrier — never stand between your car and oncoming traffic.
  2. Mark the scene. Triangle at least 45 metres back on a highway, closer in town.
  3. Call dispatch. +27 67 749 2227. Give your location, vehicle and whether anyone is hurt.
  4. Photograph everything before the vehicle is moved — damage, position, other vehicles, plates.
  5. Verify the operator. Ask for ID and a signed authorisation form before your keys change hands.
  6. Keep your paperwork. Job reference, tow authorisation and storage slip — your insurer will ask for them.
01 — DISPATCH & RESPONSE

Dispatch & response

How quickly can a tow truck reach me in Pretoria?

Our dispatch average across the Pretoria metro is 20 minutes or less. Response depends on your exact location, traffic on the N1, N4 and R21, and the type of rig required. When you call, dispatch confirms an ETA before the truck rolls.

Do you operate at night, on weekends and on public holidays?

Yes. FRC runs a 24/7/365 dispatch desk. There is always a controller on duty and crews on standby, including Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

What information should I give the dispatcher?

Your exact location (a road name, kilometre marker or dropped pin), your vehicle make and whether it rolls, steers and brakes, whether anyone is injured, and whether the vehicle is obstructing traffic. That is enough for us to send the correct rig first time.

What should I do while I wait?

Switch on your hazards, get everyone out of the vehicle and behind the barrier where it is safe to do so, and place your triangle well back from the scene. Do not attempt repairs in a live lane.

02 — COSTS & PAYMENT

Costs & payment

How is a tow priced?

Pricing is based on distance, vehicle class, the equipment needed and the recovery conditions. You are quoted before the truck is dispatched — there are no surprise charges added on arrival.

Do you work with insurance companies?

Yes. We handle accident recoveries for insured clients daily and supply the documentation, photographs and job reference your insurer or assessor requires.

What payment methods do you accept?

Card and EFT are accepted for all jobs. Account facilities are available for fleet, dealership and insurance partners.

03 — ACCIDENTS, STORAGE & RELEASE

Accidents, storage & release

Am I forced to use the tow truck that arrives first at an accident scene?

No. You choose your towing operator — nobody may take your vehicle without your consent unless a traffic officer orders its removal. Ask for identification and a written authorisation form before releasing your keys.

How long can my vehicle be held in storage?

Your vehicle is stored securely for as long as required while the claim is assessed, with daily storage charged transparently. Release happens once the owner or their insurer authorises it in writing.

What do I need to release my vehicle?

Your ID document, proof of ownership or the insurer’s authorisation, and settlement of the recovery and storage invoice. Release is available during office hours by appointment.

Is my vehicle insured while you are towing it?

Yes. FRC carries R5,000,000 in public liability and goods-in-transit cover, so your asset is protected from hook-up through to final delivery.

04 — SERVICES & FLEET

Services & fleet

Can you tow a vehicle with no keys, flat tyres or accident damage?

Yes. Our flatbed rollbacks, under-lift and boom recovery rigs handle vehicles that cannot roll, steer or brake, including rollovers and vehicles off the roadway.

Do you do long-distance and cross-province towing?

Yes. We run scheduled long-distance transports from Pretoria to any province, including dealership deliveries and repatriations after out-of-town breakdowns.

Can you help if I only have a flat battery, flat tyre or no fuel?

Yes — jump starts, wheel changes, fuel delivery and lockout assistance are all part of our roadside offering, usually resolved on the spot without a tow.

Do you tow motorcycles, bakkies, minibuses and trucks?

Yes. Light-duty rollbacks handle sedans, SUVs and motorcycles, medium-duty rigs handle minibuses and vans, and our heavy-duty recovery unit handles trucks and buses.

STILL STUCK?

A controller is on the desk right now.

No queue, no call centre script. Tell us where you are and we’ll tell you exactly how long the truck will take.
